The Safe Way To Stay Social

2 minutes estimated reading time

Coronavirus has changed the way we now socialize. You may be in a higher-risk category and are keen to keep your risk of contracting COVID-19 to a minimum. You’re still a social person, so what can you do to keep from feeling isolated? Here are some ideas to help you stay connected beyond the typical telephone call or Skype session.

Virtual Book Club

Get your bookworm friends and family to join you in reading the same book. Discuss what book you want to go with. Everyone can order it online. Then you can gather weekly via Zoom conference or Google Hangouts to discuss! Win-Win! You’ll be getting social interaction and expanding your knowledge.

Distance Dinner Party

This one is for foodies. Create a theme and invite your friends and family to make something that follows the theme. Everyone can talk over their dinners and discuss and share their recipes. Have yours handy to send via text to the group! You might wind up with something new and tasty you’ve never tried before.

Karaoke Meetups

This one can be a lot of fun! There are phone apps ready with thousands of karaoke tracks. Or YouTube is also a great source of karaoke tracks. Make it more realistic by using your internet-ready TV to play the track and the lyrics. Then sing your heart out! It doesn’t have to be great. You just have to have fun with it.

Bible Study or Other Religious Gathering

Churches are meeting, but many aren’t having the same small group gatherings they were before the coronavirus outbreak. This one can be run similarly to the book club but with a religious or another inspirational book as your guide.

These are some great ideas to connect in many different settings while still at home. It can be easy to let yourself get isolated, so make an effort to talk to someone every day, whether in one of these fun ways or not. You will be healthier in the long run if you work to maintain your mental health by socializing!
